Meet The Happy Feet Team Leaders

Ruth Singletary Ruth Singletary started taking dance lessons at age 3 and continues to study the art of dance. In 1981, she became certified to teach ballet, tap, and jazz through the prestigious Dance Masters of America organization. She is a member of Dance Masters Chapter 44-Southern Council of Dance Masters where she serves as the Co-Membership Chair. Ruth is also Nationally Certified to give Dance Masters of America membership exams. "Miss Ruth" continues her training by attending 3 Dance Masters workshops per year, Music and Worship Arts conferences at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina, and Zion Center Worship Dance Intensive in Charlotte, North Carolina. She also traveled to Los Angeles, California this summer and trained in Jazz at the Edge Dance Studio. Under her direction, the Happy Feet Dance Studio was the only dance studio in South Carolina to be invited to Dance Excellence-An International Dance Festival that is held in Los Angeles, California. The Happy Feet Dancers have traveled to California on 2 occasions to participate in the festival. They will be heading back to Los Angeles this Spring to participate once again with studio directors and students from around the world. In addition, the Happy Feet Dancers auditioned to dance on Royal Caribbean’s “Enchantment of the Seas” cruise ship. They were selected to dance on the ship and were invited back for an encore performance. “Miss” Ruth has been the choreographer for many high school plays including “Bye, Bye Birdie”, “The Wizard of Oz”, and “My Fair Lady”. She was the choreographer for 7 years for the Summerville High School choral program. "Miss Ruth" is the director of the Happy Feet Dancers Competition Company. The competition dancers have won numerous awards for their unique choreography and technique. In addition, she has choreographed for many church praise groups in South and North Carolina. Ruth has been the guest artist at numerous praise dance workshops throughout North and South Carolina. She served a 3 year term on the design team for Music and Worship Arts Week. This worship arts gathering of more than 1000 participants is held annually at Lake Junaluska, N.C. focusing on the advancement of the worship arts. Also, Ruth was the coordinator for the Dance Concert at the 2013 Music and Worship Arts Week. Ruth also attends Zion Center for the Worship Arts dance intensive every summer which is held in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has been attending this event for 17 years. Ruth completed over 75 hours of dance training and 30 hours of Bible study to earn "The Equipping of the Dance Minister in Worship Arts" plaque from the Zion Center. She has been a soloist for church conferences held in North Carolina as well as church gatherings held in South Carolina. She is currently the director and choreographer for "Glorify Dance Company" at North Charleston United Methodist Church. "Glorify Dance Company" was recently featured in the "Advocate" which is a statewide publication of the United Methodist Church.

Andi Blatchford Andi Blatchford began her dance career at a very early age. She has continued her dance training for 30 years. Andi has trained in classical ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap and praise dance. She has received additional training at Dance Caravan, Dance Makers and Dance Masters conventions. Andi is certified to teach through Dance Masters of America. She is a member of Chapter 44 Southern Council of Dance Masters and was elected to a Director position in Chapter 44. Andi is Nationally Certified to give Dance Masters of America membership exams. In addition, Andi attends the Dance Masters Workshops and Conventions 3 times a year to keep up with current styles and new technique. She was selected to dance at the Dance Excellence International Dance Festival in California for 2 years. She auditioned and was selected to tour with the fantastic dance and singing troupe the "Young Americans." While at the festival, she had an opportunity to study with teachers from around the globe. Andi will be returning to Dance Excellence this spring to continue her training. Andi has also danced on board Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas. Andi was a member of the Happy Feet Competition team where she won numerous awards with her dance team and also brought home many trophies for her solo performances. She is now the Assistant Director of the Happy Feet Competition Company where she designs award winning choreography. Andi has also studied worship dance and has assisted “Miss” Ruth with teaching at worship dance conventions. She was a clinician at the Music and Worship Arts Week at Lake Junaluska this summer. Andi has blessed many people with her beautiful interpretation of scripture and her moving worship dance solos.

Alexis Rowland began her dance training at age 5 at Happy Feet Dance Studio in Hanahan, S.C.
She continued her training for the next 14 years at Happy Feet Dance Studio which uses the Dance Masters of America Syllabus. Alexis studied ballet, pointe, lyrical, tap, and jazz.
In addition, she began teaching and coaching students in 2007 because she has a strong passion for children and loves helping them advance their skill level in dance.
Alexis has trained at Dance Masters of America workshops with many world renowned dance artists. Most recently, she attended a Dance Masters of America manual review to hone her dance skills.
In addition, Alexis has been our Summer Class Coordinator for 3 years. Alexis was the organizer for the Princess Camp held during the summer. Also, Alexis taught ballet and tumbling at an outreach daycare program.
Alexis enjoys spreading her gift of dance with others in the community. She has danced at the Coastal Carolina Fair, North Charleston Tree Lighting, North Charleston Arts Festival, Pinewood Place, and numerous nursing homes throughout the tri county area.
Alexis graduated Winthrop University in the Spring of 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with an add-on of Early Childhood. She is currently a 6th grade science teacher at Hanahan Middle School.
